Hello, folks! Your-not-so-favorite-girl is back! Now, I’m
going to review the next chapter of the book I have read, Demian: A Story of
Emil Sinclair chapter 2 and chapter 3. Oh wait, have you read the first
chapter that I have reviewed? If you haven't read it yet, click this link out.
#Chapter 2: CAIN
Sinclair finally met Max Demian, a new student of his
school, and he soon be friend with him. They discussed about the day’s
lecture, the story of Cain and Abel, and Demian revealed his argument about the
story. Sinclair fascinated by the way Demian think. And Kromer, a boy who
threatening Sinclair, was continuing to torment him, even in a worse way.
Sinclair was forced to steal to pay his debt to him, but then Kromer kept
threatening him since he knew about each of these incidents of theft. And
Kromer demanded that Sinclair need to bring him his sister. Sinclair then met
Demian and told him about Kromer. Demian suggested to kill Kromer, but Sinclair
didn’t think it was a good idea and they parted, and Demian was promising that
something will be done to alleviate the situation. About a week later, Sinclair
met Kromer randomly on the street. Kromer seemed to be scared, he then turned
and walked away. Sinclair was finally free of Kromer and he seeked out Demian
to thank him for his help, even he still didn’t know how Demian did that.
Sinclair also finally admitted the whole incident to his parents. He then returned to the comfort of his parents'
home, away from Kromer, but also away from Demian. Six months later, Sinclair
asked his father about Demian’s interpretation of the mark of Cain. His father
replied dismissively that it was an old, false heresy.
#Chapter 3: The Thief
on the Cross
The
older Sinclair had finally realized how hard to control the sexual desired of
his adolescence and how to balance those against the values of his upbringing
and he failed. A few years had passed and Sinclair purposely avoided Demian,
since he still felt awkwardly indebt to Demian because of his help in freeing
him from Kromer years earlier. But one day, the pastor taught the story of Cain
and Abel. When he began to speak about Cain’s mark, Demian and Sinclair looked
at each other and this moment drew Sinclair and Demian back together. Soon
after, Demian switched his place and was sitting next to Sinclair.
Sinclair
watched over Demian, who played along the students and teacher. He then asked
him the way in which he seemed to be a puppet master over others, and Demian
said that by concentrating hard enough he could learn to read people’s thought.
Sinclair's religious faith begins to wane. But, not like others who completely
denied the truth of all Christianity, he respected the value of a religiously
observant life. Rather than rejected the bible and Christiam belief entirely,
Sinclair took offering different, more fanciful and interpretations. Then
Demian offered Sinclair a radical suggestion, and Sinclair knew that he needed
to reject that. But Demian had Sinclair’s interest by telling him about 2
realms. But, when Sinclair brought it up, Demian said that he hadn’t yet fully
understood of what he was saying. As confirmation approached, Sinclair and
Demian drifted apart. Confirmation day had come and Sinclair knew that after
vacation he would be sent to a boarding school.
